Hawaii operates under a set of no-fault car insurance laws which means no one is technically at fault (except in cases of extreme negligence) and each persons damages are covered by their own auto insurance policy. Drivers are required to carry both liability insurance and PIP (personal injury protection) insurance with minimum levels of coverage as follows:
- $20,000 liability per person per accident
- $40,000 liability per accident for all persons
- $10,000 personal injury protection (per person)
- $10,000 property damage insurance
